Summer Offerings
Summer is a time for exploration, learning, and fun- and what better way to do that than through summer camps at SCAA! Our summer classes include everything from dance and creative movement, to theatre, visual art, and even fencing! We have classes for the young to the young at heart- starting with our Pre-K program, Art Start, all the way to our Adult sessions in Ballet and Fencing. We are all familiar with the classic Mother Goose nursery rhymes, however have you ever though about the science behind them? This STEM based camp will look into the science behind these nursery rhymes, with hands on learning and experimentation.

Students will be introduced to the world of creative movement and the fundamentals of ballet. Lessons focus on locomotor skills, musicality, and creativity as children explore their natural abilities through movement and dance. No previous training is required.

Intro to Dance Styles
Ballet, jazz, lyrical, and musical theatre dance are just some of the dance styles we will venture into during this week-long workshop. Each day students will take part in a different genre dance class to find which styles are perfect for them.

Visual and Creative Arts
Folklore & Fairytales: Creation through Storytelling
Use art to tell the story! In this one-week class, students will read different folk and fairytales from around the world. Each day, they will be introduced to a new story and then will interpret the story through crafts and visual arts. On the final day, families will be invited to a showing of the students’ works. Students should dress in attire that they can get messy. All supplies included.

Mural Makers: Portrait Edition
Create a piece of art that becomes a part of SCAA! Students will create a mural that will be placed on the walls of our beautiful John Kerr building. The mural will focus on portraits and how we can create/ show portraits in different ways. On the final day, families will be invited to showing of the students’ work. Controlled Bouts
Class Structure: Students will learn and practice rhythmic advance and retreat training. Application of FIE (Fédération Internationale d’Escrime) fencing rules are used for controlled and open bouts. Adult/Senior Fencing: Introduction to Cognitive Fencing
Introduction to Cognitive Fencing is for adults interested in learning the art, science, and origins of fencing. Olympic and Sports Fencing represent the tip of the iceberg. The art and science of fencing is older and more complex. The class is tailored to adults and seniors who enjoy physical training, may have previous fencing experience, or are simply interested in trying new techniques. This course is open to beginners and adults with experience.
