Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy (SCAA) offers a comprehensive study of movement in a variety of mediums. Study begins with an emphasis in creativity and the establishment of a strong foundation in the specific style. The progression of study allows each student to develop strength, musicality, coordination and advanced level technique.

Beginning Adult Ballet & Stretch

Age: 16 years and up

Held in 7-week sessions, this class will lead student through traditional ballet barre, followed by stretching and conditioning exercises meant to strengthen the core while aligning the spine and lengthening the musculature of the body. Exercises will derive influences from body therapies, such as yoga and pilates, dance technique, and bodyweight resistance exercises. No previous experience required. Attire is activewear with ballet slippers, socks, or bare feet.  Register for one session at a time, or multiple sessions.

Session III (January 15 – February 26)

Intermediate Adult Ballet

Age: 18 years and up

Adult ballet class at an intermediate level for dancers with past experience. The study of traditional ballet technique will be level-specific to the class. Class includes barre, center work, across the floor, and combinations. Register for one session at a time, or multiple sessions.

Adult Jazz/Hip Hop

Age: 18 years and up

10-week class session – begins January 28

A fun, high energy class designed for adults interested in experiencing a combination of jazz and hip-hop techniques where the student will learn the basics of different styles of hiphop and jazz. Any movement level is welcome! Class begins January 28 for ten weeks.

Attire is activewear with jazz shoes, or bare feet.

Yoga Technique for Adults

Age: 18 years and up

7-week class session – begins January 27

This midday yoga practice harmonizes breath with asana – bringing focus on both improving strength and increasing flexibility for optimal functional movement. Class begins January 27 for seven weeks.

Attire is activewear with bare feet or socks.

Gentle Yoga

Age: 18 years and up

7-week class session – begins March 6

Gentle Yoga is a calming, restorative practice that emphasizes slow mindful movements and deep relaxation. The practice combines gentle stretches, deep breathing and meditation to reduce stress, increase flexibility and promote overall well being. Class is designed for all fitness levels. Please bring a Yoga mat. Class begins March 6 for seven weeks.
