Intro to Guitar

 Age: 7 to 11 years

Interested in playing guitar? This introductory five-week class will introduce basic playing technique and music reading. This is a great way to begin learning the instrument prior to signing up for private lessons. Bring an acoustic guitar and a pick. Class begins Friday, October 15, 2021 for 5 weeks.

Group Piano I

Age: 6 to 10 years

Group Piano teaches the keyboard fundamentals of rhythm, note reading, and theory in a friendly setting. Access to a keyboard or piano is required. Class begins September 8, 2021 for 14 weeks.

Group Piano II

(Continuation of the Spring’21 Group Piano I)

Age: 7 to 12 years

Group Piano II builds on the basics learned in Group Piano I and moves on to reading from a staff. It continues the use of games and student interaction to enhance learning in a friendly setting. Access to a keyboard or piano is required. Class begins September 8, 2021 for 14 weeks.

The Crescendo Chorus – On hold until January 2022 – Register (at no charge) to be placed on an interest list

The Crescendo Chorus is for children who love to sing. They will learn about singing and music in an accepting and enjoyable setting, experiencing songs for young voices and musical games. Choir time with friends will nurture vocal development and growing musically with fun and joy. Performances are typically planned throughout the year. Performances for 2021-22 will depend on the gradual progression of performance venue policies post-COVID. New students can enroll during the year if class is not at capacity and tuition will be prorated for the remainder of the academic year. Class begins September 9, 2021 and ends in mid-May.

Blue Ridge Choristers – Class will begin September 21

Age: Approximately 9 to 12 years

Blue Ridge Choristers is for children interested in sharing music with others in a focused but fun setting. Singers nurture their individual voices as they sing with the choir. With a varied repertoire, students will experience performance artistry, vocal technique, and musical learning. Performances for 2021-22 will depend on the progression of performance venue policies post-COVID. New students can enroll during the year if class is not at capacity and tuition will be prorated. Session 1 begins September 21, ending in mid-Dec. Session 2 begins January 11, ending in mid-May.

Top of Virginia Youth Chorale – Class will begin September 21

Age: Approximately 13 to 18 years

The Top of Virginia Youth Chorale is for highly motivated singers desiring a challenging and artistically fulfilling choral experience. Vocal performance is nurtured both individually and as a choir, while singing a variety of choral literature. Performances for 2021-22 will depend on the progression of performance venue policies post-COVID. New students can enroll during the year if class is not at capacity and tuition will be prorated. Session 1 begins September 21, ending in mid-Dec. Session 2 begins January 11, ending in mid-May.

Shenandoah Valley Chamber Orchestra

Age: 8 to 17 years

The Shenandoah Valley Chamber Orchestra is a multifaceted instructional and performance program for string players which includes two ensembles, the Sinfonietta and the Camerata. The purpose of the SVCO is to immerse students into the professional orchestra experience by presenting three different thematic concerts throughout the year, collaborations with guest artists, and presentations in venues in and around the city of Winchester. The SVCO requires a commitment of time and effort beyond private string study on the part of the student.

Auditions are needed for placement of students in the two ensembles. This year you are given the option to audition in person or via video recording. In person auditions will take place at SCAA on Friday September 10, 2021 from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. Rehearsals begin Monday, September 20, 2021.
