Can’t keep those toes from movin’? Whether you’re into ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz, or musical theatre dance, check out these exciting summer dance classes!

Registration deadline for classes (except for ballet technique) is two weeks prior to the start of the class, although, you are welcome to call the office for availability up to the start date of class. 

Summer class tuition is non-refundable within the 2-week period before the class start date.

Adult Ballet

Age: 16 years and up

Tuition: $70
Class Times: July 6-10, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Ballet Technique

Age: Intermediate-advanced dancers age 12 years and up

SCAA offers single-session, open classes on Wednesday evenings from June 24th-July 29th. You can take one, two, or more classes. *Pre-registration is required no later than one week prior to each class. Tights, leotards and ballet slippers are required. Dance skirts or shorts and pointe shoes are optional.

*Note: If the minimum number of students is met prior to seven days before the class date, then students are welcome to register up to the class date. Interested students can inquire to see if a class is being held up until the day of the class, and any current student can register by phone or email.            540-665-4602; scaa@su.edu

Tuition: $20 per class
Class Times: Wednesdays, June 24-July 26, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Prerequisite: Three years of previous dance instruction or approval of the instructor.

If you have pre-registered for a Ballet Technique class that is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified one week in advance. You are able to use that credit towards another class date or be refunded.


Ballet I

Age: 8 to 11 years

These three-day sessions of Ballet for beginner and beginner-intermediate students are designed to build awareness of technical and artistic skills. While the material of each Ballet I session will vary, all classes will include barre work, center work and traveling combinations. Students may take one or both sessions. Tights, Leotards and Ballet slippers are required. Dance skirts or shorts are optional.

Ballet II

Age: 12 and up

These three-day sessions of Ballet for intermediate and intermediate-advanced students are designed to build awareness of technical and artistic skills, quickly. While the material of each Ballet II session will vary, all classes will include barre work, center work and traveling combinations. Students may take one or both sessions. Tights, leotards and ballet slippers are required. Dance skirts or shorts are optional.

Age: 5 to 8 years

In this five-day session, students will have the opportunity to try jazz and tap. This program is structured for students to try these different styles of movement. No previous training is required. Bring sneakers, and tap shoes if you have them.

Musical Theatre Dance II

Age: 13 and up 

This three-day session of musical theatre dance for teens includes warm-up exercises, across-the floor combinations, and fun combinations performed to music from Broadway shows. Wear comfortable dancewear or clothes (no loose shorts without tights or bike shorts underneath), sneakers or jazz shoes are required.

Musical Theatre Dance I

Age: 8 to 12 years 

This class provides an introduction to some of the dance techniques and skills used in Musical Theatre. Throughout this five-day course, students will build confidence along with learning new dance skills as they learn fun combinations choreographed to music from Broadway shows. Wear comfortable dancewear or clothes (no loose shorts without tights or bike shorts underneath), sneakers or jazz shoes are required.

Storybook Ballet – Carnival

Age: 5 to 8 years
(with one year of dance experience)

Camille Saint-Saens created an amazing work of music entitled Carnival of the Animals. The music beautifully describes the movements of the animals. During this camp your dancer will be taught choreographed movements to accompany the music to bring the animals to life. We will have an in-house performance at the end of the day on Friday. Wear comfortable dancewear or clothes that allow for easy movement. Ballet shoes, bare feet, or socks may be worn.

Introduction to Ballet

Age: 6 to 9 years 

Designed for beginners or students who want to brush up on fundamentals. This class will introduce dancers to the technique and artistry of ballet, gain new skills, and build confidence for continued studies during the academic year. No previous training is required. Students may wear dance apparel or clothes that allow for easy movement. Ballet slippers, bare feet, or socks may be worn.

Ballet and Variations

Age: 12 and up

These classes begin with traditional technique work at the barre, center, and across the floor followed by learning variations from famous ballets. Tights, leotards and ballet slippers are required. Dance skirts or shorts and pointe shoes are optional.

Choreography

Age: 12 and up

These classes are designed to expose dance students to the fundamentals of dance composition through the exploration of the elements and processes of dance-making. Wear comfortable dancewear or clothes (no loose shorts without tights or bike shorts underneath), and footwear of your choice (sneakers, jazz shoes, bare feet, dance paws, socks or ballet slippers).

Introduction to Pre-Ballet

Age: 3 to 5 years 

Students will be introduced to the world of creative movement and the fundamentals of ballet. Lessons focus on gross motor skills, musicality, and creativity as children explore their natural abilities for movement and dance. No previous training is required. Students may wear dance apparel or clothes that allow for easy movement. Ballet slippers, bare feet, or socks may be worn.

Story Book Ballet

Age: 8 to 11 years

These are structured as traditional ballet classes that barre, center work and across-the-floor combinations. The extended timeframe also provides the opportunity for young dancers to make a ballet-related craft and to learn dance variations from famous ballets. Tights, Leotards and Ballet slippers are required. Dance skirts or shorts are optional.

Lyrical I
